Armenian Solar system – one of a kind

A representation of the Earth, or a hallucination on shrooms?

This pendant draws inspiration from various archaeological discoveries in Ancient Armenia. I first encountered similar artifacts during an exhibition in Assen, and they immediately piqued my curiosity. These items were uncovered as larger objects, but also separate as a pin and pendant. In my interpretation, I’ve chosen to focus solely on the bottom part as my reference. A recent revelation indicates that the larger version of this object was, in fact, two separate pieces found in close proximity. Someone attached them, assuming they belonged together.

As is typical with ancient archaeological finds, numerous theories exist regarding the symbolism behind these enigmatic pieces. During the 1960s and 1970s, a prevailing idea emerged, suggesting that this intriguing object might be a geocentric model of the cosmos, with the round bottom part representing the Earth, surrounded by water and air, and the top part symbolizing the sun, the six planets of our solar system, and the radiant energy of the sun at the center. The inner shape of the circle has been likened to various images, including a bull’s head, a tree of life, an axe, and even a mushroom, specifically the hallucinogenic Fly Agaric (Amanita Muscaria). This notion aligns with another theory, suggesting that the object is a roadmap of observations made during altered states of consciousness, connecting it to the realm of shamans.

Much like the mysterious Pictish crescent v-rod, I prefer to keep all interpretations open, allowing each observer to decide whether they want to keep their feet firmly planted on Earth or float away into a different realm.

This pendant is handcarved and casted, there is only one available. So it is a one of a kind item. You can choose between a dark brown or black leather cord (1,5 mm thick)  or a black cotton cord (1mm thick).

Note: Bronze can leave green marks on your skin, especially when the pendant is new or when you sweat a lot. But this is not harmful for your skin.
